How to average grades
Average = (grade₁ + grade₂ + … + gradeₙ) ÷ n
The example above (88%, B+, 41/50, 93%) works like this: B+ becomes 88.5% and 41/50 becomes 82%. Then (88 + 88.5 + 82 + 93) ÷ 4 = 87.9%, a B+.
Average vs. weighted average
A simple average counts every grade the same. If your teacher says tests are worth twice as much as quizzes, enter a weight of 2 for tests and 1 for quizzes (or 66.7 and 33.3). The calculator then works out a weighted average automatically.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find the average of my grades?
Add all the grades and divide by how many there are. Four grades of 88, 88.5, 82 and 93 average to 351.5 ÷ 4 = 87.9%.
Can I average letter grades?
Yes. Each letter is converted to the middle of its percentage range (B+ = 88.5%), averaged, and turned back into a letter.
What is the difference between an average and a GPA?
An average uses percentages. A GPA converts each grade to points on a 4.0 scale and weights by credits. Use the GPA calculator for that.
Should I use weights?
Only if your teacher counts some grades more than others. Otherwise leave them blank for a simple average.
