How to work out a test score

Test score = (questions − wrong) ÷ questions × 100

How many can you miss?

QuestionsMax wrong for 90% (A-)Max wrong for 80% (B-)Max wrong for 70% (C-)
10123
20246
25257
30369
404812
5051015
100102030

On a 25-question test each question is worth 4%, so 3 wrong gives 88% (B+) rather than an A-.

What your test score means for your grade

How much one test moves your class grade depends on the weight of the tests category. If tests are 50% of your grade and you’ve taken four, one test is about 12.5% of the class. Enter your scores in the grade calculator to see the real effect.

80% is a B- on the standard US scale. It is above average in most classes.
