Teacher grader

How to use the teacher grader

  1. Type the number of questions (or total points) on the test.
  2. Read the chart: each row shows the number wrong, the percentage and the letter grade.
  3. Optional: type one student’s wrong answers to highlight their row.

Why use a grading chart?

Paper grading charts (often called EZ graders or grading wheels) save time because you only count wrong answers. This version works for any test length up to 500 questions, supports half points for partial credit and never needs batteries.

Curving and partial credit

If the test turned out harder than expected, run the scores through the grade curve calculator. For tests where questions have different point values, use the grade percentage calculator with points instead.

Frequently asked questions

How does an EZ grader work?

It divides each possible number of correct answers by the total number of questions. For a 25-question test, each wrong answer costs 4%, so 3 wrong is 88%.

Can I use half points?

Yes. Tick "Show half points" and the chart adds rows for 0.5, 1.5, 2.5 wrong answers and so on.

Can I print the grading chart?

Yes. Press "Print chart" and only the chart and result are printed.

What grading scale does the chart use?

The standard US scale (A 93+, A- 90+, B+ 87+ and so on). The percentages work with any scale if your school uses different letter cutoffs.
